The problems were intended for schoolchildren aged Each year there were two papers of 3 or 4 questions each at three different levels according to form, roughly ages, 14, 15, 16 , but with some overlap between the levels. I can usually do the the easier questions as fast as I can write down the answer, which is almost never true for modern IMO questions. The hardest questions are comparable to the IMO.
ISBN Unfortunately, I have not yet been able to get hold of a copy. However, Vladimir Pertsel published a large text file many years ago on the internet containing an English translation of the problems only. Unfortunately, some of the problems were rather hard to understand and I have substantially changed the wording here.

Successful Math Competitions Successful math competitions. In four competitions the team finished first twice and second twice. The first administration, form A and the second administration, form B are collated together for the team standings, which explains why Walter Williams High is listed twice. Students in grades 12 and below are eligible to participate. In North Carolina schools and more than students participated in the competition. The listing below is now official. The name of the contest has changed, however, to AMC The AMC 12 is a problem solving exam designed to encourage and recognize mathematical ability among high school students. Starting in year , the American Math Competitions will add a fifth contest, the AMC 10 for students in grades 10 and below. The exam has been given nationwide since and was taken last year by 10, students in North Carolina alone. Taking the AHSME is the first step towards competing in the International Math Olympiad, but the exam is intended for average students as well as "superstars".
