Skip this list. It comes with a lot of tips and trends that will help you while shopping for groceries. It goes over every category and basically every aisle by aisle. It also comes complete with recipes and a shopping list at the back.
I would recommend Hungry Girl Supermarket Survival to those who need the extra push and who need to know just what to eat and not to eat. Dec 14, Laura rated it liked it. If you like Hungary Girl, this may be worth checking out. Otherwise, you'll get better guidance from the 'Eat This, Not That' series or other nutrition books. Basically, Lillien dishes on her preferred brands; details how to stock your cart; and includes some of her basic recipes. My main critique is that most of this is 'fake food' - for example, she champions Laughing Cow cheese wedges, which are basically laden with chemicals.

The book is very well-organized, and contains summaries and cheat sheets in the back for you to take along to the market. A good thing about many of her meal and snack ideas is that they're useful for one person, which is great if you're dining alone. While many of the recipes included here are in her other books, the ones she's included here are the most basic and adaptable. This would be a good intro to the 'Hungary Girl' series for someone that's just starting to shop for themselves, like a college student or person who just got their first place.

There was a lot of information that I already knew about reading labels and making healthier choices.
It's cool that it's small enough to throw in your bag and refer to while shopping, but if you read any other books like "Eat This, Not That," you'll already know a lot of the information in this book. This is a good guide to food shopping for people who are not on special diets. I did learn a lot in some sections, but as I have problems with artificial sweeteners, I am leery of some of the foods she suggests.

A popular blogger has made an industry of low calorie food intake through books and her blog. This book focuses on shopping in the marketplace, and she seems to rely a lot on low fat low caloric substitutes rather than healthier foodstuffs without those artificial additives.
She does cover each basic food group, however, in terms of properties and nutritive value. Good for someone just starting out living on their own, I think. Definitely not my favorite book by this author. This book is pretty useful for the calorie-conscious shopper. I've made some recipes from one of the Hungry Girl cookbooks before, so I trust her to give realistic and tasty recommendations for what to buy. She does a few useful things: tells you where in the store some of the things are, gives quick recipe type suggestions, gives lists in the back of the recommended items, and tells things to stay away from.
